The past few years, the Dodge Brand has been focusing their attention on Roadkill Nights to kick off Woodward Dream Cruise Week. However, the Dodge Brand is teaming up with the Modern Street HEMI® Shootout to offer Mopar® enthusiasts a place to hang out and show off their rides during the 2023 Woodward Dream Cruise on August 19.
If you are not familiar with the Modern Street HEMI Shootout, it is the premier Mopar drag racing series in the world, showcasing the quickest Dodge, Ram, Chrysler and Jeep® Brand vehicles with a modern HEMI engine. The series has a gigantic spread of racers, ranging from folks with stock Ram 1500 pickups and other models with the 5.7-liter HEMI engine to the quickest SRT® Hellcat-powered vehicles in the world. Each year, the MSHS holds an event in Metro Detroit titled HEMI’nsanity that includes a few days at the drag strip and a day at the Woodward Dream Cruise. Series boss Dan VanHorn has had to move the event between two different tracks and he has had to move the parking area for the day of the Dream Cruise, but for modern Mopar fans, the MSHS puts on the best show in town for the weekend of the legendary Woodward Dream Cruise.
In addition to offering a place for racers to show off their vehicles during the Woodward Dream Cruise, the MSHS does sell a limited number of passes for the parking area along the cruise route, complete with in-and-out privileges and an incredible spread of food. The only real rule for buying one of those passes is that you have to drive a Mopar vehicle to get in and park, but when you park there, you are also included in the judged car show, which is hosted by the folks from the LX and Beyond Nationals.
Just like last year, Dodge will have no shortage of their high-horsepower Last Call models on display. In past years, Dodge brought out the SRT Demon drag racing simulators and an array of new vehicles to show off alongside the cars of the MSHS. We are unsure of what Dodge will bring to display this year, but we do know that the brand has a media event planned for the morning of the Dream Cruise, so whatever is being announced that morning should be on display as well. In any case, Dodge always makes sure that their displays are top notch, and when coupled with the crew from the Modern Street HEMI Shootout, a stop at the combined display area in Bloomfield Township will be well worth your time.
If you have a Mopar vehicle and you are interested in parking with the Modern Street HEMI Shootout and Dodge at the Woodward Dream Cruise, you can still buy a parking pass for just the day of the cruise. However, if you have a HEMI engine-powered Dodge, Chrysler, Ram or Jeep Brand vehicle and you would like to spend the day before the Woodward Dream Cruise drag racing with the MSHS at Milan Dragway, there is still time to sign up for the racing program and the parking lot on Saturday. The racing program has classes for everyone with a Gen III HEMI engine-powered vehicle, so you can spend Friday racing and Saturday watching the cruise with MSHS and Dodge.
If you don’t have a vehicle to display or race with the MSHS, but you are a Dodge or Mopar enthusiast, this is definitely one spot along the route that you will want to visit. In fact, with so much horsepower on hand, anyone who enjoys modern muscle cars will surely find the Modern Street HEMI Shootout and Dodge area at the Woodward Dream Cruise to be one of the most impressive spreads of the huge event.
