Herman Young has been “snatching souls” with his 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT® Demon and showcasing his racing endeavors on his Demonology YouTube Channel, in addition to competing in the Roadkill Nights Powered by Dodge Grudge Match in past years. Young knows the modern Dodge Challenger chassis better than just about anyone, having several in his garage right now and having built a few for Roadkill Nights in the past – but this year, he is being a bit secretive about what he will be racing on Woodward Avenue later this week.
Young first introduced his 2024 Grudge Match car on his channel, but what he showed us is just a chassis with no body – just the chassis and all of the tubing needed to construct a proper racecar. He calls it his invisible car and referred to it as a Challenger kart, comparing it to Cletus MacFarland’s Corvette kart Leroy; except the Challenger kart is named Tyrone. Exactly what kind of Challenger this is – or was – will remain a secret until the car makes its grand debut at Roadkill Nights later this week, but we do have the basic details on the build.
The Demonology Challenger kart was prepared in cooperation with Wesley Motorsports and is powered by the required combination of the 3.0-liter twin turbocharged Hurricane inline-six engine and the modern 8-speed automatic transmission. The engine is fed by an Aeromotive fuel system and kept cool with a Flo Supply water tank, but more importantly, it is equipped with a Nitrous Outlet single-nozzle nitrous oxide system.
To make the best use of the nitrous-fed Hurricane power, this Challenger kart is equipped with a collection of suspension upgrades from Direct Connection, including Direct Connection by Wesley Motorsports Bilstein double adjustable coilovers, Direct Connection by AAD aluminum suspension arms and Direct Connection by Wesley Motorsports aluminum front lower control arms. It is also equipped with Jongbloed single beadlock rear wheels wrapped in 28×10.5 Mickey Thompson drag slicks. Inside, a Racetech head restraint seat keeps Young safe and comfortable.
